€5,000 VRT Rebate:

This is already included in the RRP of the Nissan LEAF (e.g New Nissan LEAF 40kwh SV €40,690 - €5000 VRT Rebate = €35690 RRP - SEAI grant comes off this price)

€5,000 SEAI New Vehicle purchase Grant

€5,000 - Battery Electric Vehicle - Private Purchase
€3,800 - Battery Electric Vehicle - Company Purchase

This Grant is currently in place until 2020, This grant requires an application to the SEAI for approval PRIOR to purchase through an approved Motor Retailer and can impact on the speed of the sales process.

€600 Home Charger installation Grant

SEAI offers a €600 rebate following installation and signoff by SafeElectric registered installer. This grant requires application through SEAI PRIOR to work commencing.

This grant is planned to be in place up to the end of 2020.

Reduced annual road tax

Battery electric vehicles have an annual road tax of €120

Free Public Charging

Currently there is zero cost to charging a car at a public charge point

Charge Point Access Card Owners of Electric Vehicles can apply to ESB eCARS for an access card to the pubic charging network of charge points with 24 hour infrastructure support

Charge Point Map ESB eCARS manage a free app allowing users to identify charge points and their availability

½ Price Tolls

From 1st July 2018 up to 2022 (or with carpark of 50,000 Electric Vehicles) there is an Electric Vehicle tolling incentive

Generally there is a 50% reduction on Full electric vehicles, done through a rebate by the tolling company.

This will provide savings of up €500 pa for Passenger vehicles and €1000 PA for Light Commercials.

0% (BIK) Benefit in Kind

Battery Electric vehicles used as Company cars are fully exempt from BIK for 3-5 years. BIK 0%

This is applicable to Battery Electric Vehicles ONLY

You do not need approval for Benefit in Kind (BIK); normal self-assessment tax provisions apply

100% (ACA) Accelerated capital allowance

The Accelerated Capital Allowance (ACA) is a tax incentive scheme that promotes investment in energy efficient products & equipment The Accelerated Capital Allowance (ACA) is subject to the same rules as the standard plant & machinery wear and tear allowance. The difference is the acceleration to 100% of capital expenditure during the first year of its purchase. You don't need approval for expenditure on energy efficient equipment; normal self-assessment tax provisions apply. Accelerated Capital Allowance (ACA) for Battery Electric Vehicles and Charge equipment is available up to Dec 2020.

€7,500 Plug-in Taxi Grant

This incentive is available through National Transport Authority (NTA) and allows for putting into service vehicles up to 6 years old. (new and used)

The grants are on a sliding scale based on age and type of technology.
